Lots going on
23rd March 2009

BusyIt's been a busy few days again.

The 22nd Wigan Beer Festival was a great occasion. wiganworld sponsored a barrel this year which meant a free tasting session on a Thursday afternoon!

If that wasn't enough, I went again on Friday to sample more ales. This years theme was Star Wars, the light side versus the dark side. Have to say I prefer the light side and I think most people did too, as I struggled to get near the bar.

We went to Southport at the weekend to watch the Chuckle Brothers. To me, to you, to me, to you etc etc... It was fun. The kids loved it (and so did I).

Finally - to finish up with a whinge.

What the hell is happening with the roads in Wigan?

Standish is a no-go. Roadworks again. For how long... wait for it... 26 weeks! Thats half a year!

The main road at the front of the hospital has also been ruined. And why not? It has been a good road, untouched for many years so it was about time it was ruined.

The bridge down Miry Lane way has had a change of priority (again) just as people were getting used to the last dangerous change.

The man in charge of some of these changes was not available for comment, he was off work, sick...

Too much grief probably. ;)

Leave the roads alone - its change for change sake.

Mini Adventure
15th March 2009

Muddy Standish Wood LaneAfter our last walk along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Thomas and I are ready for another mini adventure.

The weather is getting better and we've started walking again. Today we did a circular walk starting off from the Cherry Gardens. We headed up to Standish, turned left at the lights and walked up to the bad bend where we turned left and walked down Beech Walk, before joining Standish Wood Lane.

The walk to Standish wasn't pleasent, a busy main road with non-stop traffic.

The walk back was brilliant, we were in open countryside and it was hard to believe we were in Wigan.

A short 6 mile stroll overall as part of the build-up to our next mini adventure.

Expect a few "photo-a-day" pics from this area over the next few days. ;)

Can't wait til the clocks go forward on the 29th of March, not long off now! Lighter nights mean more time out and about.

As for our next mini adventure.... Who knows?

Can you suggest anything? I thought of Hadrian's Wall, the border of Lancashire and a couple of others but it would be better to stay local and document our trips on wiganworld. Over to you...

Link and poems II
6th March 2009

Two more poems have been added to the local poetry section. One by Carole Walker and the other by David Hook, they're at the bottom left of the page.

Also another link has been added to the official website of famous Wigan artist James Lawrence Isherwood. A comprehensive site with lots to read and see.
