Streets
21st April 2008

The streets section is doing well.

Since going live with version 8 a couple of days ago, we have notched up another percent and we're now over 76% of the way there.

A big thank you to everyone that has uploaded photos.

Lets see if we can complete this section this year, I have a feeling that we might do it.

I'll be out and about with my camera soon.

Visit the wiganworld streets section.

Version 8
19th April 2008

wiganworldVersion 8 of wiganworld is here, hope you like it!

Major changes are:

New re-design and colour scheme, pretty obvious really. ;o)

Streets section has been opened up so anyone can upload their photos.

New home page. Access any of the 5 wiganworld galleries with 2 clicks. eg, click photo-a-day, then click the photo.

More improvements on the way. I have my eyes on the memories, expats and other sections.

Please note: I'm still having problems with image uploading to the server - it's like finding a needle in a haystack this one, but I'll persist.

Image problems
14th April 2008

There seems to be a problem with image uploads at the moment.

This applies to images that are uploaded site wide, including the album and member photos.

If your image does not appear, please try again or wait for another notice here.

I'm looking into the problem now.

** UPDATE **

I've been messing about with some memory settings and uploaded a few pics and all seems fine.

Not sure if we are 100% or not..... will monitor the situation.....

** UPDATE 2 **

Back to the drawing board - still having problems...

** UPDATE 3 **

I've temporarily disabled uploading of photos to the album to avoid disappointment. More soon...

 ** UPDATE 4 **

The album is 'live' again and I will monitor the situation. Seems like it may have been a corrupt folder in Linux! Googled it and found very little so decided to take action myself. If it works, I may publish the solution in the hope that it may help others. Why is nothing ever easy? lol.

Can you help?
9th April 2008

We've had an email from someone seeking your help, quote:

I am currently studying for a Masters degree in Sociological Research at Manchester University and for my dissertation I plan to examine the effect of Walking Days on community morale. I am looking for a range of people who would be willing to spend an hour talking to me about their experiences of Walking Days over the years. I am particularly interested in finding some younger people and those who may not have taken part as children themselves whilst their friends did.

If you can spare an hour, please send me an email: brian@wiganworld.co.uk - thank you.

Still busy updating wiganworld to version 8, more soon...

Streets
1st April 2008

Wigan StreetsThe new Wigan Streets section is coming along.

I have added over 4,400 of the 5,857 street photographs and hope to complete this 'small' section soon so I can do the other bits too.

Thanks to John Gormally, Jimmy Caddick and Jim Nestor for more street photos, these will be added as soon as the new look streets section is ready.

As mentioned earlier, anyone will be able to upload street photos in the hope we can finish this section. As soon as all the streets have been photographed, this section will close. It will be a great resource in the future to be able to look back at how things were. Since its launch in 2003 quite a few streets have already disappeared and many others have changed beyond recognition!

More soon...
