The Shop in Billinge Road
20th June 2008

"The Shop in Billinge Road" is another interesting read from Fred Foster.

Another complete book, published exclusively on wiganworld which will no doubt stir some memories.

Read about some great "characters" that entered the shop!

More books on the way... Watch this space.

Don't know...
12th June 2008

...whether I'm coming or going at the moment, so very busy with updates, photos and other sites.

Just to say thank you to everyone for the photos. I have plenty more in my inbox which are contenders for photo-a-day and I will be in touch soon.

On the subject of photos, the album has passed the 6,000 mark! It wasn't long ago when we were aiming for 5,000 so this is great news, thank you and please keep 'em comin.

Finally, a few of us are having a get together at the Royal Oak on Standishgate on the 10th of July. More details here. If you want to come along and aren't a member, send me an email (brian@wiganworld.co.uk) - all invited.

4th June 2008

As promised, the site stats.

Sundays are normally quiet on wiganworld but the 1st of June was busy, we had:

2,425 visitors

49,105 page views

Not bad for a Sunday. Interestingly enough each day since Sunday has got busier every day.

I'll be back with more updates soon, we have some nice weather on the way so I hope to do more street photos as well. Thanks to Jimmy Caddick who has been uploading plenty of photos these last few days. We're nearly at 80%.

Seven Years Old
1st June 2008

7 years onlinewiganworld is 7

I can't believe how quick those years have passed by!

To celebrate, I was going to have 7 updates but only managed 5. Oh well, here goes...

Spitfire Crash

Some time ago, I remember reading something about a spitfire crash in Aspull. Don't know where or when, then luckily I met a nice chap by the name of Eric Turner who witnessed the crash in 1942. Read more about the Spitfire crash.

Inside Wigan

Continuing with the new "Inside Wigan" gallery, here are some photos of Winstanley Hall.

New Book

Fred Foster has wrote a book about his childhood memories from 1931 to 1950. He has very kindly allowed me to publish it, in its entirety, on wiganworld. You can read the book here.

Newsletter

It's about time the site had a newsletter feature. You can easily subscribe and unsubscribe at any time. Receive local info direct to your inbox, sign up to the newsletter here.

wiganworld TV

Purely experimental at this stage! If all goes well, I will be adding lots of features like viewed count, ratings, comments etc. A bit like YouTube but the videos are local and the video size is larger. www.wiganworld.co.uk/tv
