Happy New Year
4th January 2010

wiganworldHope you've all had a great Christmas and New Year, all the best for 2010.

As I've not updated for a while it's time to let you know what's going on at ww. Another re-write is underway, a screenshot (yeah, I know it's small but it's a teaser) can be seen with this post. Good old wiganworld colours are making a return with oodles of info and content on each page.

Lots of new features are planned like PM's (private messages), photo uploads to any section including new photos.

The 'old gallery' will disappear and will be merged with the album - it will simply be called 'Old Wigan'.

Other features include 'watch this photo' and 'view recent comments' etc etc...

I'm not going the whole hog and writing a new facebook... Having said that, if anyone has any suggestions or ideas for the new site, please leave a comment. It could become part of the new site.

Thanks to everyone that has emailed photos over the last few weeks. It's appreciated, there have been some crackers in the Photo-a-Day section.

Finally, the wiganworld streets section has seen many more photos uploaded. Thanks to Rev. David Long and Mick Byrne for lots of pics, and thanks to everyone else that have contributed. As I type this we have over 6,700 street photos and are over 82% complete! I'll be out with my camera when the weather picks up.

Once again, all the best for 2010.

If you have any comment, suggestion or idea please do leave a comment or email me.

Thanks.

Brian i've asked before but could you think about adding a section for new photo's say from 2010 of round the Wigan area for the future with date of photo, as tomorrow is the past and the photo's will be the present for people to look at

I agree with Dougie - this in an on-going program - but I think that using the millenium as a starting point could be acceptable.
With a site so good and so popular, it has to be said, it's all because " Brian is a true "Wiganer".
and has got so many local people deeply involved in Wigan's Past-Present and Future.
Thanks Brian

Freda--Brian as almost got one running under New Gallery but you can't add photo's yourself,
I was thinking along the same line that he did for wiganers at work, in the Photo's of Wigan section

Sorry Dougie & Brian, I spend so much time when I'm on the site, in the "past" with one thing and another. I need to spread my time more widely around the site.

Brian,I sent you an email recently in reference to my putting an oil painting that I've done of Fred Dibnah on his site.It is copied off a photograph and I just wonder if it's legal for the site, shall I send it in an email for you to scrutinise? thank you.

Having recently uploaded pics of most of the streets in Lower Ince and Spring View on the "Streets" pages, I was struck by how different some places look even two or three years after the original pic of each street was taken. Might I suggest that the Streets feature be used for the project Dougie is proposing? I don't know how it might be done, but if there's a specific subject in the pic (All Saints, Wigan Parish Church, for instance), it would be entered under 'Bishopgate', but would also appear in an accompanying searchable Index under 'Parish Church', 'Churches', 'All Saints'.
