Schooldays-Infants
6th November 2008

I remember going to St. Elizabeth's School, Aspull aged four amd a half.

I had my gas-mask slung across my chest in its cardboard box.

This was in 1941, and England was at war with Germany.

The classroom was a big room, at least it was to me at that age.

It was square, and there were lots of interesting pictures on the walls.

On the left-hand side by the door was a big fireplace, surrounded by a large fireguard.

At the side stood a hod full of coal, and in winter there was always a roaring fire.

My Journey from Aspull to St. Helens.
5th November 2008

I was born on Tuesday April 27th. 1937 in Chorley Hospital.

I was taken home as a baby on May 12th. to Bolton Road, Aspull.

All the village was decked out with flags and buntings.

Evidently my mother remarked that they were out to welcome us home.
