I remember going to St. Elizabeth's School, Aspull aged four amd a half.
I had my gas-mask slung across my chest in its cardboard box.
This was in 1941, and England was at war with Germany.
The classroom was a big room, at least it was to me at that age.
It was square, and there were lots of interesting pictures on the walls.
On the left-hand side by the door was a big fireplace, surrounded by a large fireguard.
At the side stood a hod full of coal, and in winter there was always a roaring fire.
