A detour on our way home from Donna Nook

Last weekend we stopped in Lincoln on our way home from the Seal trip to Donna Nook.

Lincoln is a lovely place - and the weather was kind to us after the blizzards of the day before.

A few pix - there are more in the album on the left.

A walk with the Deer

A few weeks back I had a day out with a pal at Dunham Massey near Altrincham. It's a lovely place.

Nice gardens, Deer roaming around, a Kingfisher zooming about the lake. And a Café

Here are a few snaps - not the nicest of weather but we did ok.

Sunshine, Trees and Limestone
21st September 2008

A great combination for photos

This is limestone pavement on Holmepark Fell, above Burton-in Kendal, yesterday afternoon.

Some info courtesy of Mr Google...

Conditions for limestone pavements are created when an advancing glacier scrapes away overburden and exposes horizontally-bedded limestone, with subsequent glacial retreat leaving behind a flat, bare surface. Limestone is slightly soluble in water, so corrosive drainage along joints and cracks in the limestone can produce slabs called "clints" isolated by deep fissures called "grikes" or "grykes", terms derived from the North of England dialect. If the grikes are fairly straight and the clints are uniform in size, the resemblance to man-made paving stones is striking, but often they are less regular. Limestone pavements that develop beneath a mantle of topsoil usually exhibit more rounded forms.

Anyroad - it makes for nice piccies

A mooch at White Coppice

Fungi Fun

On a miserable wet day yesterday me and a mate had a wander around White Coppice near Heapey. Our main aim was looking for fungi to photograph - specifically the Fly Agaric - and we got a few belters!

I couldn't resist a few shots of the cottages near the cricket pitch - even though I've photographed them MANY times LOL!

Here are a few from the trip. I'm strill drying out!

Red Deer at Leighton Moss
5th September 2008

Oh Deer Oh Deer

I had a day at Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve near Silverdale recently. The star of the show on this particular day was a lovely young Red Deer Stag who came out of the reeds on the far side of one of the main waters. He spent just a few minutes each time he appeared - but after a few hours and some patience I got some interesting shots of him. I also spotted a Doe a bit further off for just a few minutes and manged a few snaps.

I hope you enjoy them

1. This was the first view I got of him as he tentatively nosed through the reeds. He spent about 20min like this before plucking up the courage to come out further.

Upside down boats!
18th July 2008

Which way is up?

These old boats have been turned upside down and made into Fisherman's huts on Lindisfarne. I think Black and White suits them very well - what do you think?
