Tutorial Night 18th June 2008

Wigan PS had a tutorial night last night. The group was split into two rooms, each spending an hour on each area then swapping round after a nice cuppa and a buscuit at half time.

Room 1 used laptops and a projector to look at several aspects of digital processing including:

• A review of the basics of layers in Photoshop.
• Using adjustment layers to apply basic levels, curves etc non-destructively
• Basic masking using marquee and lasso tools
• Background removal using layer masks and the background eraser tool

Room 2 continued the series of photography basics looking at lenses in depth. Types of lens and their uses, different characteristics of each types, strengths and weaknesses in various scenarios etc.

All in all a good and education evening :)

Day 2 and I've added a few new pages.

Monthly Print Competition - gives an insight into our regular print night - usually the first Tuesday in the month. We also have a regulsr projected image competition on the last Tuesday in the month. This includes traditional 35mm slides and digital images prohected via a laptop. I'll do a similar page for this as soona s I can get some photos that show what goes on.

An evening with Dave Butcher. If you like fine art and landscape photos, particularly in Black and White,  you've just got to check this guy out. Awesome stuff!

Portrait evening - gives an insite into a recent studio portrait evening we had. This went very well, lots of people learned stuff - and the models had a great time to.
